Government plans to spend £790 million pounds on criminalising the offence of squatting. Before you make up your mind over whether they are right, watch the video...You see, don't be taken in by all you hear, listen to the people that really know about this. The real solution is to tackle squatting in other ways, such as creating enough homes for people to live in or reducing the number of homes which are left abandoned. On 27 March 2012 the Legal Aid bill goes to 3rd Reading in the House of Lords. There is a proposal to criminalise 20,000 by making squatting a criminal offence. It has been estimated this will cost £790 million. An amendment has been put down to fight this. If you are persuaded by the excellent SQUASH Campaign video, then contact a peer in the House of Lords and tell them why you think they should vote against criminalising squatting. You can find out more about the SQUASH CAMPAIGN and download their excellent House of Lords briefing paper here www.squashcampaign.org/laspo-lords-briefing/
