Four patients die each day from hunger in hospital"Four patients a day are dying hungry and thirsty in hospital, according to new figures."Article in Telegraph"Dehydration or malnutrition was linked to 25 deaths every week last year, either directly or as a contributing factor. According to data from the Office for National Statistics,155 patients died from dehydration while 48 died of malnutrition in 2010. Another 812 patients were suffering from dehydration when they died and 301 with malnutrition, however neither was their direct cause of death While some patients went hungry or thirsty because of conditions that made it difficult to eat or drink, such as Alzheimer's, campaigners said no one should be dying from starvation or dehydration." It does make me wonder how many people outside hospital die of hunger each day? - Through inadequate care provision and the ever increasing cost of living causing people to make stark choices over whether they can afford to eat.
It's why we should do all we can to make sure people get the correct amount of support from the state; - keeping sufficient levels of proper advice agency funding is crucial to such basic necessities in life.
