The Legal Aid, Sentencing & Punishment of Offender's Bill is now before Parliament in what is known as the 'scrutiny committee stages'. It was subject to it's second reading in the House of Commons on the 29th June (as reported elsewhere on Mylegal) and now a group of politicians comprising of Tories, Liberals and Labour will consider evidence from various bodies. People also have an opportunity to write to the scrutiny committee and give their views on the bill.
After the scrutiny stages a report will be made and then in October the bill will go for further debate and voting in the House of Lords. There is also scope people to push their MP's on amendments to the bill by securing debates from parliamentarians.
The scrutiny committee has got off to a hurried start, follow this thread for information on how it proceeds.
