Whatever the rights and wrongs of Tomohawks flying in the direction of Libya, we need to be aware of how foreign affairs can very quickly become an effective mechansim for diverting media attention away from our own domestic affairs.
I'm not for one minute saying that Libya shouldn't get coverage in the media, but let's be clear we are still fighting battles of our own in this country. There is a real danger that exposure of our case for legal aid becomes restricted as the headlines will be about Libya and little else for weeks to come. I heard on the Politics Show this morning one commentator actually apologise for talking about our own affairs in the wake of Libya.
We therefore need to be very aware of the need to shout our case louder than ever before - or we'll be drowned out by the all the noise of overhead Tomohawks. Let's stay focussed and not be distracted.
The minister for legal aid Jonathon Djanogly has made it clear - his government is fast pushing for these reforms on legal aid to go through, we need to make sure they don't - whatever the distraction!
