It's heartening to hear so much mention on the television and in the press on our case for continued funding. I'm still in the final throws of compiling my response to the Ministry of Justice consultation, but none the less I've had time to listen to pieces in the media giving us some much needed promotion for our cause - the promotion of access to justice in social welfare law.
Nicky Campbell on BBC's 'The Big Question' raised the subject this morning over how the Big Society needed to be fueled by adequate funding for volunteers and professional paid staff who oversee and support our much valued volunteers. And yes, the word Citizens Advice Bureau came up more than once.
The case is strengthening folks, yesterday's news on the extension to Financial Inclusion Funding for a further year gives us hope that government will have to do another u turn on legal aid.
Truth is we are the Big Society and government is slowly having to come to a realization that organisations like Citizens Advice Bureau, law centres and independent advice agencies really are at the heart of each and every community they serve.
We're starting to win this battle I think, those that clap and applaud us are our greatest ally, the only ones who are being relentlessly heckled are those that think a Big Society will grow without any form of state support; - you'll all know who you are.
But remember the battle is not won unless it's fought, so I'll be getting back to this blessed wretched consultation response - but it will be there by 12 noon tomorrow Mr Clarke - along with many others I hope. If you've not yet done yours, you've got time left - if you don't you may just end up having all the time in the world; let's not allow this government to have its way - make sure you have your say!!
