The Government's u turn on Financial Inclusion Funding continuing for another year (at a cost of only £27 million) is great news for many. Those facing redundancy will now be able to speak with their employers about their employment status and hopefully stay on in the vital role of offering debt advice.
But remember this is only part of a much bigger battle, the fight is still on.
But remember whilst any good news is welcome, this is only for another year.
It also shows how Government has had to listen to the voice of increasing opposition to cuts in social welfare advice. But let's remember the proposed cuts in legal aid remain a serious threat. This news on financial inclusion strengthens our case for retention of legal aid within the scope of the social welfare categories.
So it's still vital to make sure that as many people and providers respond to the Ministry of Justice consultation by 12:00 noon this Monday the 14th February.
If you've not done so already, it's not to late. Any response is better than none.
