Welcome to MyLegal
Here's what we are trying to do:
If you want to post any comment or tell your story you will need to register first. It is entirely free to register and will take less than a minute. You can then tell your story here
If you actually work in legal aid or the advice sector then you might find our sister forum ilegal useful also
Remember, MyLegal is not a place to get legal advice, it's a place to talk about the importance of being able to access properly funded advice services
If you need legal advice right now, click here
If you would prefer your legal advisor to tell your story
If you want your legal advisor to tell your story for you, then that's fine. Just let them know. They would never include any personal information about you that would allow you to be identified
Your opinions and your stories are important
However you have received your legal aid, and whoever provided you with your service, your personal experience is important. This is whether the assistance you received was provided by a private practice solicitor or any other specialist legal advisor e.g. at an advice agency, such as a CAB, Law Centre or other independent centre
This is because many in the general public have never had a serious legal problem; for example, they've never been in serious debt and needed help keeping bailiffs from the door or problems having state benefits withdrawn when they shouldn't have been plus the knock-on difficulties these types of problems cause
MyLegal is not owned by the Government or affiliated to any political party, advice network or legal representative body. It is run by a few volunteers who think the general public need to understand the importance of what is happening to legal aid and the wider advice sector, and that people who have never had to use it understand its value regardless
Here's what we are trying to do:
- explain and discuss with people who don't work in legal aid just what is going on and why it's important to know about legal aid and advice sector cuts
- give people who have actually used legal aid services an opportunity to tell their story
- raise awareness by sharing these stories around the web via social networking
