From BBC News, 3rd February 2011:
"The Citizens Advice Bureau service could be devastated because of budget cuts", its chief has warned.
A number of centres are set to close as councils in England and Wales decide their funding for local CAB services.
CAB chief executive Gillian Guy said the service could be looking at a 45% drop in funding as a result of cuts in local and central government support
The government said current funding for the CAB was haphazard but such services were important and should be supported."

I work for a CAB in Nottinghamshire and the County Council is proposing a 67% cut to funding for all Nott's CABx - devastating. At present we only have the money to stay open until the end of 2011. And we are seeing more and more clients with problems relating to the current economic climate - e.g. redundancy, loss of over time, debt, losing their homes. As the CAB volunteer in this clip said it is a contradiction with the 'big society'. And the Government cuts it's own services (e.g. Consumer Direct) and has the cheek to say that CABx will pick up the advice in this area. Not if CABx are closing down we won't - ridiculous!!

Welcome to Mylegal Bexster. You're very right to point out the effects this is having on Nottingham - as it is in other areas. The important thing is to tell people and repeat the message about how wrong this is, people need to be speaking to those in the community and to their MP's wherever possible. The threat to Legal Aid and the ending of Financial Inclusion Funding - as well as cuts in Local Authority funding grants are disastrous to CAB and the many thousands of people in crisis it helps day in and day out.
I'll add a post of what you say in our running thread 'Justice Disappears - Advice Deserts Blossom' where we are compiling information on how widespread these cuts are becoming. If you have any more information please post it here or on our running thread - there's also one for media articles. We'll make sure it goes in the right place.
Just keep spreading the word and thanks for your post.
