Hi Fiona,

Generally speaking we can't resolve problems on a one to one basis on the forum as our primary function is to more widely focus on civil social welfare problems currently provided for via the legal aid system.

However I am familiar with some of the issues concerned with this particular case and am concerned that no help seems to be available. Without appropriate consents it is nigh on impossible to do anything. Clearly what is needed here is a good criminal solicitor or accredited representative who can help at the police station. Most firms can or rather should be accessible via the Legal Services Commission website of Criminal Defence Solicitors (CDS) but what strikes me is what is needed is one who specialises in mental health as well. All of the websites have changed but I will try and locate a link and post it back here.

One should be accessible via the Police station, although a duty representative may not be the best help option in the circumstances, better to have one briefed before going to the interview on Wednesday. I am confused why the Police has seized this person's sole means of communication? - that has to be a breach of his rights. I should add that most CDS firms will have 24 hour contact numbers to allow for this contingency.

Please keep me informed

I can see LSC site is not the most helpful for someone trying to get help, why doesn't that surprise me?

However, I have looked these up on-line...

We can't vouch or promote any particular firm but there is one with a 24 hour mobile number and free-phone land line. The person you are trying to help needs someone to speak on their behalf, the hour of the day will make email contact of no help. I hope this helps.
